A former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has expressed his profound gratitude to the governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu and his wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu for assisting him survive the impeachment onslaught unleashed on him by estranged boss, Rochas Okorocha.
Madumere gave the thanks on Saturday, August 14 in Owerri, Imo State during the conferment of the highest chieftaincy title of Ada Owere 1 on Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.
He described the Governor of Ondo State and his wife as humane and haters of injustice.
Madumere who was the Chairman of the occasion reeled out reasons why he cannot afford to forget Governor Akeredolu and wife.
He recalled how the newly crowned ‘Ada Owere I’ with her husband, Governor Akeredolu encouraged him by their pieces of advice and joined others to ensure he was not removed from office unjustly.
He said: “Many of you may not know that I am much closer to Akeredolu family than most of you could imagine. His Excellency, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), his wife and the family generally hate injustice.
“During the period of my ordeal, when I was unjustly and forcefully being dragged to a “political skull”, this First Lady with a beautiful heart stood like a rock of Gibraltar. She said no to injustice.
“She supported me and gave me soothing words of exhortation. She joined many others to ensure that I was not put to shame.
“Ada Owere 1 also created room for me to see Governor Akeredolu who left his meeting to see me. He is a humble man, humane but he hates injustice.
“Speaking with me, he told me it was not the end of life.
Madumere also thanked the people of Owerri zone and Imo State in general for speaking up when it mattered most.
He assured them he is still very much around and will always work to contribute to the development of the state at every opportunity.
Recall that Okorocha did all within his power as governor to oust his deputy, Eze Madumere from office after their relationship went sour.
He mobilized the House of Assembly under Acho Ihim to purportedly impeach Madumere on the unsubstantiated claim of being an ex-convict but a High Court quashed the impeachment before the tenure of Okorocha’s administration elapsed.
On the other hand, Okorocha’s first deputy, Jude Agbaso was not so lucky as it took him many years after he had been shoved out of office for his impeachment to be reversed.
