Basiru Ajadi, 60, was remanded in Abolongo Correctional Facility on Monday by an Oyo State Family Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl.
According to news reports, Basiru of Aba Alade, Olorunsogo, Ibadan, was accused with having illicit carnal knowledge of a minor.
Basiru was remanded to Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo Town by Chief Magistrate S.H. Adebisi, who refused to take the defendant’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction.
The defendant should be remanded, according to Adebisi, pending the conclusion of the case file at the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
He adjourned consideration of the case until August 30.
According to the prosecutor, Insp Gbemisola Adedeji, the defendant reportedly had illicit sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old girl on July 28 at around 7:00 p.m.
Basiru allegedly persuaded the victim, who was a neighbor’s child, before raped her, according to Adedeji.
The offence, she added, was in violation of Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Right Law of 2006.
