Indian actor, Chetan Kumar, was detained for making a tweet against a certain judge hearing the pleas countering the ban on Muslim girls wearing hijabs in schools.

A recent upheaval has been taking place after a ban was placed on Muslim girls to ensure they were not permitted to wear their hijabs to schools.
He questioned the reason behind letting a judge hear the hijab ban pleas after the same judge made a severely controversial statement in the past regarding a woman who was raped.
According to his tweet, he ruled out chances of rational results from the hearing since the judge seemed to be unable to serve in the capacity of listening to women’s cases.

The actor’s reference dated back to 2020 when the judge had questioned the behaviour of a woman when hearing a rape case.
According to BBC News, the judge’s statement had sparked outrage and people saw him as anti-progressive.
The actor, who is prominently known for his activism against the class system in India, has been facing some antagonism because of comments he has made regarding some of these issues.

On February 16, Kumar had made a tweet on the case of Justice Dixit granting bail to the accused of a rape lawsuit after the judge mentioned that the woman’s claims were hard to accept.
The judge had declared in his observation:
“The explanation offered by her that after the perpetration of the act she was tired and fell asleep is unbecoming of an Indian woman.”
The judge believed this was not the way Indian women behaved after they were raped.
The comment was later deleted from the official document of the hearing due to the severe backlash that followed.
Police explained that the actor’s arrest was because his tweet could cause unnecessary unrest.
