The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Bayelsa State says it will be temporarily suspending the first quarter of the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Wilfred Ifogah.
He stated that in line with the approved timeline and schedule of activities for the first quarter, the exercise will be temporarily suspended from September 21 to October 3, 2021.
Ifogah further stated that within this period, there will be display of claims, objections and other necessary housekeeping in preparation for the next quarter, adding that the second quarter of the CVR exercise will commence from October 4, until December 20, 2021.
While assuring Bayelsans that the Commission will not deny any eligible voter in the state the right to register, Ifogah urged those who are yet to register to prepare themselves for the resumption date.
INEC had in late June this year, announced the resumption of the online Continuous Voter Registration, through its registration portal https://cvr.inecnigeria.org, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
About a month later, the commission kicked off the schedule of appointments for online registrants and physical CVR, at INEC state and local government offices across the country.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, had disclosed that it received a total of 42,211 online applications nationwide within the first 24 hours of the resumption of the CVR.
The Commission had stated that out of the three million Nigerians, who had done their online pre-registration, Osun State has the highest number followed by Edo and Bayelsa, while the states with the lowest number of pre-registration in the CVR are Borno, Yobe and Abia states.
