The Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Bala Alkali has on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State flagged off operation ‘Restore peace’ in the South South and South Eastern parts of Nigeria.
This came at the wake of recent security crises and other crimes threatening the zones as well as other parts of the country.
In a Statement signed by the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer who attended the event, SP Odiko Macdon, the IGP charged the officers to be brutal on every criminal elements while upholding tenets of human rights.
He however assured of a continued synergy with the Armed Forces and the Intelligence Community.
The statement reads in parts, “Disturbed by the increase in heinous crimes in the South South, South Eastern States, and other parts of the country, especially the recent activities of IPOB and its armed wing, the ESN, the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Bala Alkali, npm,fdc, has today, in Port Harcourt, launched Operation Restore Peace.
“In order to achieve the full objectives of the Operation, the IGP has assured of a continued synergy with the Armed Forces and the Intelligence Community.
“The IGP charged Officers and Men of the Operation to be firm and ruthless against criminal elements while upholding the tenets of human rights.”
