Nigerians woke up to another shocking episode of wails from traumatized parents, as there has yet been another disturbing case of kidnap in the North.

One would wonder if this is suppose to be a “we are used to it” situation, or something to fight against to the latter.

Earlier today, UK outlet BBC reported on Friday morning, February 26, that the mass abduction occurred overnight, saying parents of some of the students have confirmed the development.

This will not be the first time a bulk number of school students are being kidnapped almost without a trace.

In the last 7 years Nigeria has amidst its countless cases of kidnap and banditry experienced 5 of the most shocking and appalling kidnap scenarios.

In this report, Nigerdeltaconnect.com takes us through the top 5 most devastating kidnap case studies in the last 7 years.

1. Chibok school girls 2014

On the April 14, 2014, a total of 276 school girls were kidnapped in a town called Chibok in Bornu State. Although reports constantly revealed the perpetrators of the act, the deadly Boko haram sect had used the infamous Sambisa forest but the case still remains totally unresolved till date.

2. Dapchi girls 2018

Another kidnap incident hit the country on February 19, 2018, when Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State confirmed the abduction of another whooping 110 female students by Boko Haram from the Government Science and Technical College, Dapchi.

One of the very traumatic stings of this particular kidnap remains the case of Leah Shaibu, a Christian girl who was kidnapped alongside other students in Dapchi but was never released even after the release of the rest of the kidnapped students. Till date, Leah remains unheard of or seen.

3. Kankara boys 2020

Running down to just last year, we were greeted with another devastating news of the abduction of over 300 pupils of a boys secondary boarding school in Kankara town of Katsina State.

Although the release of the boys were secured subsequently, that didn’t go down as the last to be heard of kidnapping in the North.

4. Kagara boys 2021

The Abduction of 42 persons from the Government Science Secondary School Kagara in Niger State still remains fresh in the minds of Nigerians as the kidnap incident occurred on February 17, 2021.

Till date, the victims including 27 students are still in hostage.

5. Jangebe girls 2021

The most recent tragedy came as a shock to most Nigerians as over 300 female students have been reportedly kidnapped from an all girls secondary school in Jangebe town in Zamfara State by bandits.

The Zamfara State government has also confirmed the abduction of an unconfirmed amount of girls in the school.

The big question remains, who calls the shots?

With a series of resolved and unresolved kidnappings in the North West and North East of Nigeria, what would be the fate of our dear Jangede girls?
