Former Nigerien President, Mouhamadu Yesuofu, former President, Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar were among the high profile dignitaries who joined President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, August 20, to attend the wedding (Nikkah) of his son, Yusuf Buhari in the Bichi Emirate Council of Kano State.
Yusuf, who is the Talban Daura, and the only male child of Buhari and first son of the President’s second wife, Aisha Buhari, married 19-year-old Zahra Nasiru Bayero, daughter of the 2nd Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado-Bayero.
The wedding ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, after the representative of the groom, Alhaji Mamman Daura, paid the sum of N500, 000 to the representative of the bride, Alhaji Aminu Dantata as dowry.
Zarah is the fourth child of late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
The bride’s father, aside being an Emir, is also the Chairman of 9mobile and the first child born at the official residence of Kano Emirate known as Gidan Dabo.
Twenty seven year old Yusuf, is a graduate of the University of Surrey, Guildford, United Kingdom while Zahra is studying architecture in a university in the UK.
The wedding ceremony, which took place at the Emir’s Palace in Bichi, attracted Governors, Ministers, traditional rulers, captains of industry, politicians as well as members of the diplomatic community.
Other dignitaries who attended the event include the host Governor, Umar Ganduje, Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba-Alkali, former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai, former IGP, Mohammed Adamu, Governors of Enugu, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Bauchi, Zamfara, Cross River and Bayelsa, among others.
It was noticed that despite efforts to observe all COVID-19 protocols, the crowd overwhelmed the organizers, mainly the staff of the Kano emirates who were helpless after they were shunned by some dignitaries for flouting the established protocols.
