A political associate to former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and convener of the 2023 South- South Presidency, Chief Dikivie Ikiogha, has said that Jonathan has not declared his interest to contest the next presidential election in 2023.
Chief Ikiogha, who also said the 2023 Presidential race is between the South- East and the South–South geo-political zone, asked all South- West politicians jostling to be President to drop their ambitions and support the South-South geo-political zone.
According to him, the speculations making the rounds that the former president has made up his mind to contest for the Presidency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not true.
Clarifying his group’s recent meeting with Jonathan in Bayelsa, Chief Ikiogha said that the meeting had nothing to do with mapping out strategies for his return to the presidential villa in 2023.
He explained that their visit to Jonathan, like many other Southern leaders they have visited in the last 12 months, was to intimate him on their demand for a South-South Presidency.
Ikiogha stressed that the group is made of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC but are united in their quest to ensure the South-South produces the President in 2023.
He also appealed to the South-East to support South-South to complete the tenure Jonathan did not complete for the sake of equity and justice, adding that the South-West and South-East should know that South-South still has four years left on the Presidency tenure.
