Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, his Bauchi and Oyo state counterparts, Bala Mohammed, and Seyi Makinde, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other prominent guests joined Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri for his first year anniversary thanksgiving.
The event took place on Saturday at the magnificent 15,000-capacity Ecumenical Centre.
The governor was sworn in on February 14, 2020, after a Supreme Court judgment affirmed him as the authentic governor.
At the thanksgiving, the General Overseer of the Charismatic Revival Ministries, Pastor Lazarus Muoka spoke of the importance of thanksgiving in the lives of every Christian.
He said Governor Diri has faith in God despite the travails he went through and God honoured him by making him the governor against the expectations of many.
On his part, Jonathan congratulated Diri and the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo for the anniversary and wished them well as they continue to steer the ship of the state.
He said the Prosperity Administration has done well in the last year with the visible projects it has commissioned and embarked on and urged them to do more.
In his remarks, Governor Diri said his emergence was an act of God and he will continue to give thanks, insisting that power comes from the Almighty alone.
The governor stated that despite the numerous challenges, his administration has worked hard to ensure that its prosperity agenda is implemented.
He thanked Bayelsans for their support and prayers and assured them that his government will not relent to continue to provide human face services for the benefit of the people.
Former Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson was unavoidably absent at the event but he sent former Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Kemela Okara, to represent him.
A source close to Dickson said he had difficulties securing a flight from Abuja which resulted in his absence at the thanksgiving, a claim that was also corroborated by an aide to the former governor.
It will be recalled that Governor Diri was sworn-in on February 14, 2020, after a Supreme Court judgment affirmed him as the authentic governor.
