President Muhammadu Buhari has departed Nigeria for the 76th UN General Assembly in New York.

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations.
The 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) opened on Tuesday, 14 September 2021; Abdulla Shahid of the Maldives, was sworn in as the General Assembly President and he opened the 76th session.
The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 21 September 2021. The General Debate will take place from Tuesday, 21 September to Monday, 27 September 2021, including Saturday, 25 September. Due to the global pandemic, the size of delegations allowed into the General Assembly Hall will be limited, and UN Member States were encouraged to provide pre-recorded statements in lieu of travelling to UN Headquarters. Over 100 Heads of State or Government are expected to attend in person.
