Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have attacked a farm belonging to the spokesman of the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Offa in Offa LGA Kwara State.
It was gathered that the herdsmen, who migrated from Idanre in Osun State, launched an attack on the farmers at about 1800hours of Friday evening.
One person was seriously injured in the attack on the farm located behind Offa University.
According to the spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in the State, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the farmers resisted the attack and in the attempt to overpower the suspected herdsmen, one farmer, Yakub Salasi and twenty-seven others sustained serious injuries.
Others victims injured in the attack were later transferred to Abdulsalam Hospital, Offa for further treatment.
The herdsmen, however, escaped from the scene, while the farmers alerted the Offa Civil Defence JTF division.
According to newsmen, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspected herdsmen, most of their cows were injured and seized by the aggrieved farmers.
A Fulani man, Alhaji Sabo Yaro, who intervened in the matter, promised to assist security agents in fishing out the suspects
The NSCDC and the joint task force are in pursuit of the suspected Fulani herdsmen, knowing fully well that since they left most of their cows behind, they won’t run far.
The JTF commander has even asked the farmers to let go of the cows, and escort them back to the farm, while security personnel will lay ambush for the suspected herders to return to retrieve their cows, and for sure they will be apprehended on the process
The JTF spokesman also assures farmers to be calm as the area will be brought to normalcy and the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice
