At least one person has died in a fresh attack at Evwreni community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The gunmen, suspected to be members of a disbanded community vigilante group, arrived the scene of the incident in a convoy of three cars, pulled over and opened fire on people in a drinking bar.
Sources say the deceased, identified as Prince Muvi Unagha, was with some youths at the bar when the ugly incident happened.
An Eye witness noted that there was pandemonium in the area as residents scampered for safety.
It was also gathered that no fewer than four cars were damaged by the terror gang.
The suspected members of the terror gang, are allegedly believed to be loyal to a monarch, who has been fingered in the reign of terror in Evwreni.
The targets of the attack, are believed to be enemies of members of the terror gang.
It will be recalled that Evwreni community has been engulfed in crisis in the past one year. The crisis has claimed at least eight lives and properties worth over N150m destroyed.
A source added that in an attempt to save the victim, youths of the community had rushed the deceased to the “A” Division at Ughelli to obtain treatment authority letter, then to the Central Hospital at Ughelli, where he eventually died due to excessive bleeding.
The ugly incident was said to have further heightened tension in the community, as residents were seen relocating from the community for fear of reprisal attack.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed the death of Unagha.
According to him, “It’s true that a young man was shot dead yesterday at Evwreni, and as we speak, the police are on the trail of the suspects in order to bring them to book, but as of now, no arrest has been made,” Daily Independent.ng quoted him as saying.
He added that his team would thoroughly investigate the situation of things and keep the public updated, stressing that justice would be served.
