A new media outfit, Rapid 96.5 FM, a subsidiary of RAPID Network, has been launched in Umuahia, Abia State, with a resolve by its management to promote the Eastern culture, as well as export to the world the cultural heritage of ndigbo.
Briefing Newsmen at the new station complex, Umuahia, the Head of Station, Mr Nkamiang John and the member of the Directorate at the station, Mr John Chuks, said broadcasting would be done professionally, while youth-friendly programs would be given top priority and business potentials in the South East region would be adequately promoted.
The station Head who explained that the culture of the South Easterners would receive a boost through its programs assured that the rich culture of the Igbo would be exported to the world, while youths would be provided with the platform to explore untapped opportunities.
Mr Nkamiang who assured that broadcasting in the new media station would be done in a professional style, noted that political activities that may stir uproar in the country would not be broadcasted, adding that only programs that promote peace and unity would enjoy the air space on Rapid 96.5 FM.
He also noted that the station commenced commercial broadcast on September 1, 2022, to serve Abians and other South Easterners.
The station further promised that the radio station would help in easing tension while assuring that only accurate reported events would be aired on the station.
The new radio station also reiterated its commitment to breeding the leaders of tomorrow through quality programs.
“We want to be the platform where people will be well represented. It is obvious that Abians want something different and we are ready to give them what they want”.
Naming, however, encouraged ndigbo to transform their yearly new yam festival into global tourist affairs that could attract a global audience and participation.
The station further revealed that its modern TV station, Rapid TV, would soon begin broadcasting as all arrangements have been concluded to launch into action, adding that Rapid TV would be rich in production, broadcasting and exportation of locally generated content to the world.
It was also disclosed during the press conference that Rapid academy would soon be opened to harvest youths’ talents in entertainment and fashion businesses.
The high point of the event was a facility tour and opening of the State-of-the-Art studio and other facilities to Journalists for inspection.
