Bayelsa First Lady, Dr. (Mrs) Gloria Diri has extended her benevolence to Agudama-Ekpetiama community in Yenagoa Local Government Area, through her foundation, the Gloria Diri Foundation (GDF).
Indigenes of the community became the latest beneficiaries of the foundation’s Free Medical Services and Care for the Elderly, as over two hundred and seventy one persons were presented staple foods, clothes and cash gifts.
Media aide to Mrs Diri, Maria Olodi-Osumah, explained that the Integrated Health Care services was provided for the Elderly, Women and Children at the General Hospital, Agudama-Ekpetiama.
She said Mrs Diri who spoke before the distribution of the items to the beneficiaries at the community square, noted that the health and well-being of all Bayelsans is paramount to the foundation, adding that the multiplier effects of the socio-political and economic advantages cannot be overemphasized.
The governor’s wife maintained that the GDF, in line with its mission has been providing basic needs for the most vulnerable women, children and the poor in the state.
According to her, as a source of hope for the less privileged, it has been organising quarterly Medical Outreach programmes to people in rural communities and will continue to scale up the required interventions so as to lift the standard of living, especially for the elderly.
The First Lady and President GDF also stated that the month of October every year is dedicated to creating awareness and to take further steps to prevent Breast Cancer, hence the incorporation of sensitization on breast awareness and screening of the breast to enhance knowledge of the cancer scourge, prevention and treatment.
The Bayelsa First Lady added that breast cancer is preventable and treatable and adviced women to imbibe good health seeking behaviours, get early medical attention as cancer screening saves lives and money.
In her address, Coordinator GDF, Mrs Juliet Teibowei stated that the routine Medical Outreach and Care for the Elderly across the various communities in the state are geared towards educating, supporting and encouraging people to maintain a balanced life devoid of diseases and other challenges of the aged.
The Chief Whip, Bayelsa State House of Assembly and member representing Yenagoa Constituency 2, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyal, Mayor Yenagoa, Hon.Nimizuo Uroupaye and Dr.Alabo Ozubide, speaking on behalf of the Agudama-Ekpetiama Community, in their separate remarks while appreciating the Wife of the Governor and members of GDF for the gesture, stated that the people are committed to ensuring the success of the Prosperity Government led by Senator Douye Diri.
They acknowledged that the Government has given the people of Agudama-Ekpetiama a sense of belonging having fulfilled its campaign promises via the delivery of the dividends of democracy.
