Meet the children of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who are also doing well in their respective professions. Interestingly, they all graduated from Harvard University.
Uzodinma Iweala is the first son and second child of Okonjo-Iweala. He is a Nigerian-American author and an award winning writer, a filmmaker, and a medical doctor. He is the CEO and Editor-In-Chief and co-Founder of Ventures Africa Magazine, a publication that covers the evolving business, policy, culture and innovation spaces on the continent of Africa. His published books include Beast of No Nation, Speak No Evil both of which are novels .
While at Harvard, Uzodinma Iweala earned the Hoopes Prize and Dorothy Hicks Lee Prize for Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis, 2004; Eager Prize for Best Undergraduate Short Story, 2003; and the Horman Prize for Excellence in Creative Writing, 2003. He graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2011and was a fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advance Study at Harvard University.
Onyinye Iweala is her eldest child. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology. She received her Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology from Harvard University in 2008 and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 2010. Onyinye is a wife and mother.
Okechukwu Iweala is her second son and the third child. He studied social studies at Harvard University and graduated in 2005.
He is the last child. He is also a graduate of Harvard University in 2009 and majored in Economics.
It is motivating to know that although, these children got the best from their parents, they were also determined and focused as was seen in the awards they received as well as the positions they occupy in their respective fields. This is unlike some highly placed people whose children only but bring shame and contempt to them.
Another inspiring thing about these people is that they are all bearing Nigerian names and representing Nigeria through their business ventures. Not forgetting that Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is also known for her peculiar style of head tie and Nigerian Ankara outfits.
We do hope you have been inspired and motivated to be focused and determined to succeed in whatever you do.
