Barrister Kenneth Imasuagbon, a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and renowned philanthropist, has declared that Nigeria’s next president should be produced on merit, intellectual capability and exposure rather than party zoning system.
He argued that the best option for the Peoples Democratic Party was to jettison zoning and to rather ensure a credible and acceptable candidate that can fix what he described as “litany of troubles facing the country” emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.
He remarked that Nigeria is in an emergency situation that required an emergency solution and Nigerians should be thinking of who can do the job, secure the nation and help the economy to grow. The person that can fix roads, make our schools work and give value to us as Nigerians.
Imasuagbon opined that those clamouring for zoning do not love Nigeria, noting that merit, intellectual capability and exposure are attributes that should determine who becomes the next president.
He stated that President Goodluck Jonathan did 6 years; Olusegun Obasanjo did 8 years; while Yar’Adua did two years and Buhari is about completing 8 years. Therefore, if we are talking about zoning, it is not the turn of the South, but if it is PDP, the ticket should go to the North.

He explained that if the south under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has done 14 out of 16 years in the presidency, it is only fair that the north should be the next in line for the presidency.
He further stressed that Nigerians are currently sitting on the precipice of strategic issues like job creation, security and the economy and requires somebody who has been tested and is courageous enough to heal the pains of the country as well as unite the country.
