The military in Burkina Faso has declared on state television a military takeover of the state.

According to BBC News, one of the reasons cited for ousting President Roch Kaboré was how the constant insecurities in the country that had not been dealt with the same level of retaliation.
Roch Kaboré had faced insistent criticism for his passive reaction towards suspected Jihadists’ raid in the country.
The seizing of power is coming a day after there were reports that gunshots were heard close to the president villa and barracks located in the capital of the country.
The statement released by the military outlined that the president had failed all means to unite the country and to respond properly to Islamist militants that have tossed the country into chaos since 2015.

Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba – perceived to be the coup leader – was the commander who signed the statement.
The statement dissolved the civilian government and the cabinet, and they announced the closure of the nation’s border.
United Nations’ Antonio Guterres condemned the ascension of military rule and demanded that the army do not put the president in harm’s way.
So far, it is unknown where Mr Kaboré is located but anonymous sources disclosed that the president and one of his ministers have narrowly escaped being assassinated along with other ministers.

Suspected Jihadists were said to have murdered 53 members of the military in November and this had sparked outrage.
Protests made on Saturday against the government’s lackadaisical response to Islamist insurgency led to the arrest of so many people.
Civilians are largely receptive to this drastic turn of events.
