The Nigerian Communications Commission has been given the 3.5GHz spectrum allocation for fifth-generation networks by the Federal Government’s National Frequency Management Council.

The handover ceremony took place on Thursday in Abuja, where Prof Isa Pantami, Chairman of the Council and Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, also presented the National Policy on Fifth Generation Networks for Nigeria’s Digital Economy.
This was stated in a press statement issued by the minister’s spokesperson, Uwa Suleiman, on Thursday.
The minister directed that the spectrum be distributed to the companies whose bids were successful in the December 2021 auction, and he urged all stakeholders to ensure the implementation of the National 5G Policy for Nigeria’s Digital Economy.
MTN Nigeria and Mafab Nigeria Communications Limited won the NCC’s December 2018 auction for two available lots of 100 MHz TDD slots on the 3.5 GHz band for 5G deployment in the country.
