Traditional rulers in the Niger Delta have called on all Ijaws to put their differences aside and remain committed to the unity and development of the Ijaw nation.
The advise is coming as plans are being made for a fresh Ijaw National Congress (INC) Election.
Amayanabo of Twon-Brass, and Chairman, Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Alfred Diete-Spiff made this known during a Conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders (CITRE) in Yenagoa.
It could be recalled that the 2019 INC election ended in chaos after thugs stormed the Ijaw House in Yenagoa, venue of the election and carted away ballot boxes while counting was still ongoing.
Diete-Spiff in his remarks said participants in the election should be sincere and put the interest of the Ijaw nation above every other thing.
He expressed gratitude to the Governor, Senator Douye Diri for his support towards the successful hosting of the CITRE meeting, saying it has gone a long way to prepare the way for a peaceful forthcoming election.
At the conference, the Committee charged with the responsibility of resolving all litigations involving the INC went on to submit it’s report and recommendations for the forthcoming elections.
Chairman of the Committee, Justice Francis Tabai (rtd) noted that the committee has resolved to discount the June 29, 2019 INC Election in its entirety, and has said that a fresh election should be conducted for all offices of the National Executive Council of the INC.
He added that however, any of the contestants in the botched election that wishes to re-contest can do so without paying the fees for the collection of forms.
Following the resolution, an 11-member National Electoral Committee with Professor Dagogo M.J. Fubara as Chairman was constituted and inaugurated for the purpose of organizing a convention and election of the INC.
The Electoral Committee also has as it’s Secretary Professor Samuel Edonmiekumor and other members as Engineer Henry Domo-Spiff, Mrs Rosemary Naingba Oduone, Dr Igoniwari I.Green, Hon. Mrs Daba Boyle, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, Chief Jacob Amalaya Otuawaji, Hon. Prince Okpanbeni Johnny, Chief Robinson Ogunkoro, and Princess Adesola Ebiseni.
