The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched NCC Global Connect, a podcast channel that will broadcast news, events, and information on the commission, consumer rights, and telecoms sector challenges.
Professor Isa Ibrahim Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy unveiled the podcast channel last week at the Communications and Digital Economy Complex in Mbora, Abuja, in the presence of key telecom stakeholders.
Professor Umar Danbatta, NCC’s executive vice chairman, said the commission has embraced an innovation culture and has used a variety of well-established traditional and social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Twitter (banned for now) – for its media and public relations activities over the years.
“But we are not relenting in expanding our media frontiers. We want to reach more and more of our stakeholders with our rich content to empower them and improve our visibility locally and internationally”.
Podcasts have grown increasingly popular as a medium of stakeholder engagement as a result of improvements in digital technology, as they serve to increase these engagements organically and conversationally. In light of these developments, the NCC has launched a podcast channel called “NCC Global Connect” as an extra social media platform for the commission.
The establishment of the podcast channel, according to the EVC, is in line with the NCC’s strategic initiatives to improve the commission’s corporate image and visibility through the adoption of innovative communication channels such as developing audio and video content to reach our stakeholders both inside and outside the country, as well as using it to attract prospective investors into the Nigerian telecom industry.
He believes that the NCC Podcast will complement our existing online media platforms in supporting the array of our communications activities and collaborations by offering additional innovative ways and tools to engage with our stakeholders. The audio content of our podcast can be seamlessly accessed on various channels including Podcast Addict, Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music, Google Music, iHeartRadio, Deezer and much more.
