A fresh oil field has been discovered in Otuabula 2 community in Ogbia Constituency 3, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Otuabula 2 community had invited the Bayelsa State Government, to assess what it found in a farmland in the community whether it was an oil spillage or discovery of a new oil site in the state.
A team led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa State Governor on Oil and Gas, Chief (Amb) Timi-epre Solomon Seimiebo, officials from the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency ,NOSDRA, the Ministry of Environment and other relevant bodies, arrived the community for inspection and sampling and discovered what could be crude oil on a virgin land. Inspection was done by the NOSDRA officials, while samples were collected for further assessment and testing.
The oil has already caused so much damage to farm products within the locality, thus the team visited the affected farmers before proceeding through the Ogbia creeks to the site for inspection and assessment. .
The Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa State Governor on Oil and Gas, Chief (Amb) Timi-epre Solomon Seimiebo assured the people of the community of the state government’s readiness to work with every relevant authorities within the oil and gas sector to bring to reality what could possibly mean the discovery of a new oil site in Bayelsa State.
