The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the attack on the Abayi-Aba police station by unknown gunmen in Abia state.

The incident which occurred on Tuesday was carried out by unidentified hoodlums numbering over hundreds who attacked the police station from a nearby compound and reportedly set part of the building on fire.

According to Daily Post, the Police confirmed the incident on its Twitter page stating that the Abia State Command successfully neutralized 4 attackers, arrested 8 persons and recovered arms and ammunition from hoodlums who carried out the attack.

“It is worth noting that the hoodlums numbering about two hundred persons, armed with AK47 rifles and machetes invaded the station and set part of it ablaze with the aid of petrol bombs and other explosives.

“Following the attack, two officers, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Vincent Gonze and Sergeant Emmanuel Okoronkwo, unfortunately, paid the supreme price.”

The statement also stated that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu had strictly warned that anyone or group of persons who, under whatever guise, engages in an unwarranted attack on any public property will face the full wrath of the law. It also stated that the IGP had sympathized with family of the departed officers.
