Following the recent Promise by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to gift N10 million to all the artistes that performed at the Burna boy home coming concert, Nigerians have come heavily on the Governor.
Recall that the State Governor has hosted a home coming concert to Nigerian Grammy winner and the rave of the moment, Burna boy who hails from Rivers State.
However in a rather exciting move by the governor, he made an open gift promise to award every artiste who performed at the concert a whooping sum of N10 million.
This particular move by the Governor has been greeted with tons of reactions from Nigerians on social media.
While some believe the act by the Governor was a rather callous one given the current economic situation in the country, others believe Wike was only celebrating “local content”.
Some of the reactions flooding the media space include a tweet from former Senator from Kaduna State, Shehu Sani, where he tweeted:
You criticize those who don’t do giveaways like Baba; And you criticize those who do giveaways like Wike:Why na?

Also, a twitter user Wale turner had this to say:
The impulse gifting by Governor Wike is so unnecessary for a state that has failed to pay gratuity & pension.

Amidst the controversies, the governor believes Burna Boy has made the state proud and deserves all the gifts presented to him.
Gifts given to Burna include a parcel of land in a choiced area in Port harcourt the state capital and funds for building.
This will not be the first time the Governor will be criticized for his “generosity”, recall Wike had donated N500 million to Sokoto State as his contribution to the rebuilding of a burnt market in the state.
