The Nigeria Sports Mouthpiece (NSM), in conjunction with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and International Sport Press Association (AIPS), will crown Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the ‘Pillar of Sports in Africa’.
This was disclosed by NSM founder and renowned journalist Wale Ajayi on Thursday afternoon, April 29.
Orji Uzor Kalu, who served as governor of Abia State in between 1999 and 2007, has continued to leave remarkable footprints in the Nigerian sporting circle.
During his time as governor, local club Enyimba won several major local and continental titles including 5 NPFL titles, 2 CAF Champions Leagues as well as 2 CAF Super Cups.
Kalu who is the chairman of SLOK Holding, the Daily Sun and New Telegraph newspapers in Nigeria will be honoured in Cameroon, during the AFCON tournament scheduled to hold between January 9 and February 6 next year.

“All top sports journalists in Africa present at the AFCON, will grace this event. We are discussing with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for his final approval and consent. We will officially invite him to Cameroon for the ceremony.
“This event has been in the pipeline for a few years now and the Nations Cup provides a perfect platform to make it official.”
