The Chairmen and Secretaries of 14 out of 21 chapels in Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have disassociated themselves from a purported State Executive Council (SEC) meeting scheduled to hold today, Wednesday, August 18, 2021.
The resolution of the Chapel leaders who constitute the State Executive Council of NUJ was contained in a statement issued today following information that one Amadi Akujobi had sent Notice of SEC meeting to some selected SEC members.
The chapel leaders said that they abided by the earlier agreement reached by all the parties involved in the NUJ election dispute with the Rivers State Commissioner of Police last Thursday that the status quo ante should remain.
The chapel leaders, therefore, described the purported SEC meeting convened by Amadi Akujobi as illegal and unconstitutional, saying that the only authority recognised by the NUJ Constitution to convene SEC meeting is the chairman and secretary of the state council.
They vowed to resist any attempt by unauthorized person(s) or impostor(s) to convene either the SEC meeting or Congress meeting.
The chapel leaders warned the remaining seven chapel leaders to be wary of Amadi Akujobi’s antics and desperation to impose himself on the state council with the connivance of some members of the Union.
They also called on the Police to hold Amadi Akujobi and his desperate group responsible for any breakdown of law and order in the Rivers State Council of NUJ.
