The Director-General of Samuel Numonengi Continuity Campaign Organization (SAMCCO) 2021, Osain Fiezibe has said that the current chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bayelsa Council, Samuel Numonengi has implemented more than seventy percent of the campaign promises he made 3 years ago.
Osain disclosed this during a campaign tour of the organization to Solalina Media Chapel to solicit for the reelection of the incumbent chairman for the second term during the forthcoming November 3, 2021, Triennial Conference holding at the Ernest Ikoli Press Center, Azikoro in Yenagoa.
The DG said that the other candidate is trained, experienced and qualified to lead the state council but stressed the need to return Numonengi to complete the good things he started.
“We are here to plead with your conscience to consider all the good things the incumbent has done. Samuel Numonengi has achieved more than seventy percent of the manifesto he set out 3 years ago”, he said.
Numerating some of the chairman’s achievements in the last 3 years, Fiezibe said Samuel Numonengi has ensured all outstanding weigh-in arrears for government workers were paid, united people of different factions in NUJ, enthroned cordial relationship with the Bayelsa State government, and was instrumental to the construction of the Media Village.
According to the DG, Numonengi painted the NUJ Press Centre, engaged with government and other development partners to address the issue of flooding in NUJ premises, and has almost concluded plans to train 100 journalists in the state in partnership with the Nigeria Content Development and Management Board (NCDMB).
Addressing members of Solalina Media Chapel, the NUJ state chairmanship candidate, Samuel Numonengi reassured that he will do more especially in the area of training and welfare of journalists if reelected.
“We made it a point of duty to increase the chapels as well as the population of journalists, with a view to giving every journalist a voice. In spite of Covid-19, we achieved so much in our first tenure. I wish to assure you that we will even do more. Our achievements are there for all to see.”
The Chairman of Solalina Media Chapel of NUJ Bayelsa Council, Okemsinachi Green Mbah while receiving the SAMCCO 2021 campaign team, expressed hope that Numonengi will win considering his numerous achievements that are manifested at the NUJ Secretariat.
He charged the chairman to consider security, training, and re-training of journalists as a top priority while urging him to include members of Solalina Media Chapel for training and welfare of journalists.
Mbah assured the campaign organization of the support of Solalina Media Chapel on the election date and charged the current leadership of the NUJ to consolidate on the successes recorded in the past three years when reelected.
“You are someone who I know has capacity. I have no doubt that you are going to return, but as humans, we will do our best and when the election time comes, we know the best owing to the fact that we have seen a lot in NUJ under your leadership.
“A lot of tremendous changes have happened. We have no doubt that with what we have on the ground now, you will even do more when you return”, Mbah added.
