The General Manager of Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA), Engr. Francis Chukwu, has restated his readiness to check fraudulent activities in the agency.
According to him, the administration of the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has zero tolerance for corruption.
He stated this during a radio programme, Newsmaker aired on Orient FM 94.5 anchored by Jerry Osuji.
Chukwu also listed his achievements and strategic policies in uplifting the agency.
He reminded Imolites that the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) was established through the 1976 Edict of the Government of Imo State, and statutorily empowered to build a beautiful and functional Capital City of Owerri through the provision of infrastructure, urban services and effective development control.

He itemized the responsibilities of the agency to include definition of boundaries, implementation and give yearly review of Owerri Master Plan, establishment of infrastructural services; layout preparations, formulation of building regulations and bye laws as well as approve building plans.
The OCDA boss disclosed that upon assumption of office, he had an interface with different heads of departments, conducted a comprehensive facility tour of offices and premises and carried out sanitation exercise to have a conducive working environment.
He described members of staff of OCDA as passionate who are ready to assist in the realization of the 3R mantra of Gov. Uzodimma.
Chukwu stressed that in a bid to check fraud and falsification of receipts, he has suspended issuance of old receipts, stopped those who were also collecting statutory payments using POS and inter-switch.
He said he also directed that all statutory payments should go through the TSA, and introduced electronic receipts with micro chips, opining that he also effected strategic changes in various high-ranking positions, unit heads and statutory bodies of the authority to rejig the system after due investigation.
The OCDA boss further disclosed that he had recovered popular Ikenegbu open space/playground, Shell Camp quarters all sold by previous administration.
He added the authority has also pulled down illegal structures erected on green verge along Umezurike by Emmanuel College, informing that there is an ongoing construction of urban recreation park at the place.
He appealed to street traders and operators of shanties in Owerri capital city to vacate on or before January 10, 2022, saying that the awareness campaign carried out last year was to inform, educate and sensitize them on the inherent dangers and hazards associated with street traders.
