The People of Ohafia North State Constituency, weekend, tendered accolades to the legislative style and interventions of the member representing the Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Mandela Obasi.
Interacting with the media during the six years anniversary and the presentation of the account of stewardship by the lawmaker, Mrs Ure Oteh, expressed delight over the impactful representation of Mandela Obasi in the past six years in office.
According to her, the lawmaker has showed exceptional love for his people through his timely legislative interventions, as well as his projects that are people centred.
She described Obasi as a hard-working and selfless legislator, who would not want to see his people suffer.
“Countlessly, he has helped our women especially the widows, the youth and also frequently disbursed farm inputs, just for us to have high yield.
“Am not surprised with what the lawmaker is doing today, this has been his lifestyle”, she hinted.
The Youth Leader of Ohafia Local Government Area, Ndukwe Owu, further disclosed that the youths of the area are happy with the representation of Mandela Obasi and they are ready to give him continuous support.
According to the youth leader, the lawmaker’s representation these past six years, majorly cut across the welfare of the youth, stating that they are happy with the lawmaker.
The Chief of Staff to the Executive chairman of Ohafia LGA, Dimgba Ejieke, commended and congratulated the lawmaker for making a mark through his leadership.
“We have a representative in Mandela Obasi. He understands the needs of the people and bring it to them per time”, Ejieke stated.
The Chief of Staff also applauded the peaceful and synergistic relationship that exist between the lawmaker and the Executive chairman of the LGA, Dr Okoroafor Ukiwe, one he said has put Ohafia Local Government on the pedestal of development.
However, Ejieke advised the people of Ohafia to make proper use of the bags of fertilizer that would be distributed to them, what he tagged as ‘Agricultural Advancement Scheme’, to help them record bountiful harvest.
The General Manager Abia State Road Maintenance Agency (ABROMA), Engr Ogeokochi Okali, praised the legislator for his immense contributions to the development of Ohafia, calling on the people for their continuous support.
Another constituent who could not hold his joy, Paul Kalu, narrated the diverse achievements of the lawmaker.
Kalu said the lawmaker has moved various motions on the floor of the House, that have attracted tremendous changes to the people.
“Before now, Ohafia communities were bedeviled with incessant farmers/herders clashes, but the motions of Mandela Obasi, brought the immediate intervention of the state government and security outfits to address the situation. Today, farmers can go about freely without fear of being killed or their farms destroyed as a result of herders activities on their farms”, he narrated.
Kalu further disclosed that the timely intervention of the lawmaker on the threatening erosion menace that almost cut off the Ohafia community from other parts of the state, brought about the one billion naira mediation fund from the federal government.
“Just recently, the lawmaker made frantic efforts to see to it that the security challenges that confronted the area recently, did not escalate. His cry to the governor of the state and the security agencies, made the police not to carry out massive arrest when their officers were killed in the area.”
Enumerating some tangible projects of the lawmaker, the constituent stated that the lawmaker built a modern day Recreational Centre in Abiriba, built a High court in Nkporo, fenced two schools at Abiriba and Nkporo, reroofed Amaogudu community hall, as well as, the reroofing and furnishing of the Abiriba Communal Improvement Hall.
“The lawmaker also built an eight classroom blocks at Abiriba and Amaeke Community High School, Nkporo. Intervened on some failed portions of Ohafia roads”, he said.
Kalu went further to state that the lawmaker among other laudable projects, reconstructed the failed portion of a state road in Ohafia.
The constituent, however, commended the lawmaker for his empowerment programmes that cut across the youth, women and the elderly, stating that Obasi has also given several financial empowerment.
Mandela Obasi, earlier, enumerated his achievements, promising the people of more quality representation.
He said his love for his people, majorly spur him to give his best.
While urging his constituents to continue giving him support, also pleaded for them to support the governor of the state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, who always act promptly anytime he calls on him on issues that bother around the welfare of Ohafia people.
The 6th year Anniversary celebration of the lawmaker, featured the distribution of one thousand bags of fertilizer to the people, cash gifts and a lot to eat and drink.
The Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, PDP stakeholders in the area and other notable Abians graced the event.
