Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Ene Okon, has assumed office as the new AIG in charge of Zone 17, comprising, Ondo and Ekiti States.
The new AIG was welcome to the Zone Headquarters in Akure by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami and high ranking officers of the command.
Ene Okon is the 3rd AIG posted to the Zone 17 comprising Ondo and Ekiti since it’s creation in year 2020. Until his posting to Zone 17 Akure, he was the AIG Zone 9, Umuahia.
Speaking with Journalists while assuming office as the new AIG, Okon who described Ondo and Ekiti as relatively peaceful solicited the cooperation of the two police commands for a successful tenure.
“I can assure you with the peace being enjoyed in Ondo and Ekiti, there is no cause for alarm. In Ondo State, what I use to hear is isolated farmers/herders clashes but I think that is a thing of the past. The two states are well secured and I will do everything to sustain the peace.”
He called on members of the public to be helpful through volunteering of useful information about criminals in the zone.
It also urged the public to be law abiding as he has zero tolerance for lawlessness and would not tolerate any act of indiscipline and corruption.
While reacting to the killing of Ondo indigenes in Plateau State, Okon called residents of Akoko area to shun a reprisal attack.
“The incident of the killing is not even clear till today. Everybody is trying to make analysis in one way or the other. But you are aware that the IGP swung into action immediately the incident happened, with strong team to investigate the situation.
“You must have heard that 22 people in connection with the killings have been arrested. Serious effort is being made. You cannot carry out any reprisal attack when you don’t know who did what and am sure that the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State have put up serious measures to check any reprisal attack.”
Meanwhile, the AIG is a graduate of Political Science from the University of Ibadan also known as the Premier University and bagged his MSc in Public Administration from the University of Uyo.
He enlisted into the force as a Cadet ASP in 1988, the pioneer set of the Police Academy.

AIG Okon has served in various capacities within and outside the country as DCO and DPO of various Divisions, Commanding Officer of Nos 7 & 15 PMF Squadrons, Contingent Commander, Nigeria Police Formed Unit to the United Nation Peace Keeping Operations in Haiti, Deputy Director, Peace Keeping Department etc. He also served as ACP Operations, Benue Command, Area Commander Oron, DCP Logistics & Supply, FHQ; DCP Dept. Of Fin & Admin. Abia State; DCP State Criminal Investigation Dept, Owerri .
In 2017, he was promoted to the rank of the Commissioner of Police and was posted to Benue State Command, CP FSARS, CP Abia State Command and CP Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit, FHQ Abuja.
On his promotion as an Assistant Inspector General of Police, he was deployed as the Zonal AIG for Zone 12.
