Ondo State House of Assembly has frowned at the level at which weeds have taken over abandoned projects in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Assembly wondered why such a laudable project that was about 10 percent completion to be allowed weedy.
Some of the projects visited by the committee include, Ugbonla Skill Acquisition Centre, Omuro market, Aboto-Atijere 28.5 kilometers road, and 1.4km swamp along Ayeka-Irele road.
Speaking with Journalists, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts (PAC), Hon. Festus Adefiroye said the visit is part of the committee’s responsibility to hold government institutions accountable for use of Public funds and resources, by examining all related financial documents including reports submitted by the Auditor-General.
“We carried out the oversight function based on the query we have from the Auditor General’s report and when we get here, there are projects that looked like they have stopped because the jobs are not completed.”
Adefiroye who represent Ile-luju/Okeigbo State Constituency said, “We got to the skill acquisition centre but we cannot even enter, because the place is bushy, no road to get there. Likewise the market, nothing is going on there and it is almost completed but we will look into it and make our recommendations.”

According to the lawmaker, “It is only when the projects are completed that I can say am happy. You know our Governor is a talk-and-do man. But all our observations will be in our report and will be submitted to the right authority.”
He added that, “We met with the Engineer in charge of the Aboto water project and has promised that by Friday, 20th August 2021, the water will start running. He has also assured of the sustainability of the projects once fund is available and I want to assure you that we in the House of Assembly too will continue to be on their neck to ensure that they do what they are supposed to do.”
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN on the, 13th of August, 2020 commissioned the Aboto Water Project estimated to worth Two Billion Naira in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government of Ondo State.
