The Onigedegede of Gedegede-Akoko, in Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Waliu Sanni has cried out over incessant abduction of traditional rulers by gunmen across the country.
This is coming following, his recent brutality by suspected Fulani herdsmen in his palace.
He decried the rate traditional rulers who are the custodians of culture and tradition are being kidnapped, killed and made to pay ransom after days in the forest, saying this development is too ridiculous and disturbing.
The Onigedegede pointed out that in recent time, not less than three monarchs in Ekiti State and an Emir from Kaduna State were kidnapped with impunity.
Oba Sanni urged government to provide security for royal fathers based on their salient activities to make peace and mobilise people for various government programmes.
He said in the past, it was an abomination to treat traditional rulers with disdain as they remain the voice of the people.
The monarch urged the federal and state governments not to relax in their constitutional roles of securing lives and properties in the country.
He disclosed that the Secretary to Akoko Northwest local traditional council and the Oluyani of Iyani Akoko, Oba Sunday Daodu, and his second in command were abducted along Oba-Akoko and Owo road where they spent five days in captivity.
All these, he said, “portend serious embarrassment to the defenceless royal fathers whose most of their palaces are porous”.
He advocated self help efforts by “forming vigilante groups and making local hunters to complement the efforts of police that have shortage of manpower”.
