Amidst the lingering hike of fuel bedeviling the economic system of the country, the residents of Ondo State have called on the Federal government to devise strategies towards ending the suffering they are passing through without hope of an end.
The residents bemoaned the issue while lamenting that there had not been any change despite the deployment of the Governor’s special task force in some filling stations.
Recall that the Governor’s task force led by Senior Adviser to the Governor on Special Duty, Doyin Odebowale had assured the residents during an interview with newsmen that Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is taking drastic steps towards enhancing compliance with the approved pump of petrol in the state.
He further stated that he had ordered the arrest of whoever is found selling fuel beyond the approved price.
“I was there when they were selling fuel beyond the approved price and I will ensure the task force sell all the fuel in the station
“And whoever is found selling fuel beyond the approved price will be sanctioned.
“Some filling stations are hiding under the certain federal ministry to sell the fuel at a high price and I will ensure such person is arrested when caught”, he affirmed.
However, residents say the situation is becoming worse everyday.
A commuter, Omoniyi Omobowale decried the lasting hike in fuel price while urging the Federal Government to devise strategies towards the availability of fuel for the people.
“The Federal Government is not doing anything about the issue. We can’t buy more than N1000 fuel a day and it is not enough for us to run our business for a day. It has grown worse.

“The government should remove the subsidy if that is the only way to make fuel available to the people. They have removed subsidies from diesel, they should remove subsidies from fuel and let us know how much we will charge our passengers. Let them remove subsidy so we can know our next line of action”.
Similarly, Olakitan Adefila, one of the residents urged the government to deploy more of its taskforce and sanction any offender caught hoarding the fuel.
“It’s from the federation; the federal government knows what to do; these people are hoarding the fuel. It’s not the governors’ problem.
“Government needs to at least deploy five task forces, people are selling at a high price in this Akure and they are up to 10 places, but if there are a lot of special task forces around, all of them will move down to the petrol stations and regulate the prices.
“Majority are hoarding their fuel and people are still suffering from the hike in fuel price”, he lamented.
Another resident who simply identified himself as Taiwo appealed to the government to return normalcy to the country.
“We urge the Federal Government to regulate the price and return normalcy to the country. If we can get fuel, they can remove subsidy”, he pleaded.
