Arietaline, a suburb in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital was thrown into mourning on Thursday, when gunmen numbering over 15 invaded the area killing one and carted away an undisclosed amount of money and other valuables.
The gang of suspected armed robbers who were said to be on complete black attires, gained access to about two houses and after a failed attempt to enter more, killed one Mr. Mendin Odumgele, aged 28.
Narrating the incident to our correspondent, the cousin to the deceased, Mr. Misiomasi Ibuku Omieworio, said the robbers entered his house, collected both monies and phones before his cousin was shot dead.
Also speaking, a neighbor whose house was also robbed in the operation, said the robbers after finishing from the other room where Odumgele was killed, entered hers but that she was lucky they took just money and left.
Some sympathizers within the neighborhood, decried the incessant killings and insecurity the entire area has suffered in the past few weeks, begging the state government to beef up security in the area.
Efforts to get the spokesman of the State Police Command, Asinim Butswat to react to the incident was not successful as at the time of this report, as calls put across to him were not answered.
