One killed while several persons reportedly wounded as Violence occured during a village yearly festival in Ughelli Kingdom, Delta State.

Several persons were reportedly injured in the violence that took place in the Ekiugbo and Oto-Iwhreko towns on Thursday evening, September 16, when some enraged youths in the neighborhood allegedly started hostilities.
DSP Bright Edafe, a spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that only one person was confirmed dead, not two as people had speculated.

At the time of this report, the reason for the dispute that resulted in the vicious shooting of competing communal youths were unclear. However, reports claim it was a planned strike.
According to punch, communal violence had previously erupted between the Ekiugbo and Oto-Iwhreko communities in Ughelli kingdom in time past.
The name is Iyeri festival according to their facebook page called MOUTH PIECE OF URHOBO, is a festival which is celebrated annually by the people of Ughelli in the month of September, which is the most popular amongst the festivals celebrated in the Kingdom. The origin of the festival to late chief James Emekpe (the Otota r’Ovie of Ughelli), was dated back the 1940s when an Ughelli princess named #Irivwidide was said to be childless but loved and reverend by her people. During her life time, she was the priestess of #Orevwo deity.

According to the tales surrounding her, she usually invokes the powers of her deity, Orevwo on all wars against other people. She was a very great woman who was very courageous and brave. Though a woman, she did not only plan the wars but also participated in them. Stories have it that she was never defeated in battle. During such wars, she made Use of Orevwo the war deity who at such times turned itself into a deer (Orhua). Whenever an attack was on, the deer would appear in the front of the people directing them on how to go about it.
