President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday has thrown his weight behind the ongoing APC membership registration and revalidation exercise currently going on in the country, insisting that his wish for the party is for it to return to the grassroots.
He also admonished members of the party to always remember they have the mandate to elect flag bearers in the forthcoming election, as against the concept or narrative of godfathers imposing candidates on them.
While speaking when he received some delegates of APC National Youth Representatives Caretaker Committee led by Ismail Ahmed, at the presidential villa, he asserted that politics is a game of number while the party belongs to the people.
According to the Nigerian tribune, President Buhari said the authority of the political party should flow from the grass roots to the elites and not otherwise.
He further called on young APC members to participate in the exercise, telling them that if they want to see something different, they must be prepared to do things differently.
President Buhari assured the youth of his continuous support towards their growth and development in all facets of their of Endeavour, saying that in the days to come, he will consult with his officials to birth new ways to foster adequate collaboration with Nigerian youths in public service.
The president in his statement promised to set up a committee largely made up of the youths to consolidate with their clime to involve young people in all productive sectors in the nation.
Leader of the delegation, while speaking, urged the president to ensure that each committee set up by his administration has at least one young person as a member.
