Stakeholders from the Oron ethnic group, Akwa Ibom State have condemned the recent attack in an audio clip against Governor Udom Emmanuel, saying it does not reflect or represent the generality of the opinion of the Oro people.
This was part of the resolutions of the meeting of the Oron stakeholders convened by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem at EEJIM hotel, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The governor had, in an AKBC radio phone-in Programme to mark the 34th anniversary of the creation of the state, accused the Oron people of derailing the Ibom Deep Port project.
Emmanuel had claimed that the Oron people have written series of petitions to the Ibom Deep Sea Project investors allegedly to scare them away over change in nomenclature of the project, adding that they (Oron) should be held responsible if the project is not implemented before the completion of his tenure.
However, the meeting called on all sons, daughters, leaders, elders and friends of Oron nation to remain calm and law abiding, adding that all issues and concerns of the people relating to the said audio and other crisis are being addressed and would be resolved very soon.
The resolutions reads in part: “That the trending audio clip vilifying the Governor of Akwa Ibom State Mr. Udom Emmanuel, is strongly condemned as it does not reflect nor represent the character and opinion of Oron people.
“That the speculations and assertions that the location of the proposed Ibom Deep Sea Port is not within Oron locality is false and misleading and in order to put the said misinformation to rest the office of the Secretary to State Government has agreed to lead a delegation of enlarged Oron stakeholders, media influencers and concerned citizens on a tour of the said location at Unyenge, Mbo Local Government Area.
“That the brand equity regarding the name- Ibom Deep Sea Port is no longer in contention while applauding His Excellency’s efforts at courting investors to the said project.
