There is alarm in Akwa Ibom State as another aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Michael Enyong emerged winner of a parallel governorship primary election of the party that was held on Wednesday.
Enyong, a two-term member of the House of Representatives was declared winner of the primary held at Ewet Housing Estate, a different venue from the earlier reported Godswill Akpabio International Stadium where Mr Umo Eno, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s anointed successor was declared winner.
In a report made available to our correspondent in Uyo on Wednesday night, the lawmaker defeated other gubernatorial opponents to emerge winner with a total number of 2448 votes even though the total number of adhoc delegates of PDP is 1018.
Announcing the results of the exercise following votes cast by the accredited delegates across the 31 local government areas, the Returning Officer, Mr. I. D. Sunday said Rt Hon. Michael Enyong scored 2448 votes, Pastor Umo Eno, 239 votes; Obong Bassey Albert, 50 votes; Rt Hon. Onofiok Luke, 34 votes; Akan Okon, 5 votes; Mr Ide Owodiong, 0 vote.

However, it could not be established if the said Mr Sunday was sent by
PDP National body or there was any INEC official at the venue of the parallel election.
In his reaction shortly after his declaration as the winner, Enyong thanked the delegates for their overwhelming and unwavering trust reposed in him to represent the party in the 2023 Governorship election in the State.
He said as the candidate with the right formula to fight poverty, he will eradicate poverty from all the nooks and crannies of the state and ensure improved lives for children, youth, women and men in the state.
The candidate therefore called on all other aspirants who could not emerge winners to see his victory as a win for all and join hands to conquer the state for the PDP come 2023.
