This is not the best of times for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a member of its Board of Trustees (Bot), Senator Joy Emordi has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
She was officially received by the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, in a brief ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.
This was contained in a statement titled “Member of PDP Board of Trustee, Senator Joy Emordi joins APC”, issued by Buni’s Director-General, Press and Media, Mamman Mohammed.
Describing the leadership of the APC as “sincerely and genuinely committed to a united Nigeria that has plans for the future generation”, Emordi said she took the decision to cross over to the ruling party because she was totally convinced that the “future of a prosperous and united Nigeria lies with the APC”.
Giving assurance of her loyalty and that of her supporters, she said, “I assure the party of my loyalty and support, and to work for the success of the party”
She further said the APC was attracting PDP members to it’s fold because the APC-led federal government was working for the South-East.
Responding, the chairman of the APC Caretaker Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Buni, who doubles as the governor of Yobe State expressed delight with the decision of Emordi to join hands in the building of a united Nigeria by joining the APC.
Noting that the South-East is a strong political block that is very critical to the unity of the country, Buni said the coming on board of Emordi as well as other prominent politicians from the South-East to the APC will engender unity and cohesion in the country.
Joy Emordi’s defection is coming on the heels of the resignation of seven deputy national officers of the PDP.
The cause of the mass resignation of the seven national executive council members of the PDP is not immediately clear but sources close to the party claim it is part of a grand plan to oust the national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus
