The Peoples Democratic Party PDP says it is yet to act on reports of its screening committees approving or disqualifying aspirants in the states contesting elective positions on its platform.
The National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu made the clarification in a statement dated May 13 and endorsed by his media aide, Ikenna Onuoha.
According to the senator, the PDP had raised committees for the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja to screen aspirants who are gunning for elective offices on its platform.
Anyanwu, who represented Imo East Senatorial District between 2015 and 2019 disclosed that the committees had since submitted their reports.
The former Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions and Privileges further revealed that the committees recommended to the party some ineligible aspirants for disqualification over gross misconduct and dual party membership.
The National Secretary added that the party would soon meet to look into the reports of the committees and take decisions on their recommendations.
He said; “In some states, the committees (Panels) recommended to the party some ineligible aspirants for disqualification over gross misconduct and dual party membership etc.
“The party has acknowledged the submission of the committees but had yet to act on the recommendations.
“The party will soon meet, look into the report, and take decision on the recommendations or otherwise. This is the position of the party for now”.
The National Secretary explained that he has no personal issue with any aspirant irrespective of the unprovoked outburst by ill- informed individuals against him.
He advised PDP aspirants in the 36 states of the federation including FCT, Abuja to go to their respective constituencies to convince the party delegates on why they should be elected as candidates of the party in the forthcoming primary elections.
Recall that shortly after that botched three-man adhoc delegates congress in wards of Imo State, reports claimed that an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat of Ideato Federal Constituency, Imo Ikenga Ugochinyere had been disqualifed by the PDP.
Ugochinyere, who is the opposition spokesperson had alleged that the result sheets meant for the ward congress in his federal constituency were not displayed by the panel sent by national secretariat to conduct the congress thereby stalling the congress in the constituency.
