- Gov. Diri thanks president Goodluck Jonathan, Sen. Seriake Dickson and Seyi Makinde
- Says these were people that stood with him even before Supreme Court victory
Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has encouraged Nigerian politicians to see politics as a means to improve the life of the people.
The former president yesterday, during his speech at the Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, during the first anniversary thanksgiving of the Governor Douye Diri’s administration, urged all political leaders in the state, to bury their hatchets and work collaboratively to propel the future of Bayelsa state.
The thanksgiving, which was also held in honour to God for the memorable Supreme Court victory of February 13, 2020 that ushered in Diri as governor.
Some dignitaries at the event include the Dame Patience Jonathan, Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Uche Secondus, among others.
Goodluck Jonathan in his speech advised political leaders saying, after every political tussle, it is always needful to set aside differences and sue for peace and development, supporting the winner of the said election, Vanguard reports.
He also applauded Gov. Diri for constantly extending Olive branches across to the opposition, calling on Bayelsans to whole heartedly support the Diri led Administration.
Those of us in politics should learn to play politics as politics and not as a war. At the end of the process, let us come together and support the winner.
I thank our governor for opening his mind to accept everybody irrespective of the political divide, and I urge him to do more.
Gov. Diri in his response thanked God for his miraculous intervention through the judiciary, saying the judiciary is a strong reminder that there is hope for the common man.
Diri however thanked some foot soldiers who stood by him during his most trying times before the supreme court victory.
Eulogizing these “through thick and thin” friends, Diri showered Encomium on former governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom, Describing them as agents used by God to make his dream come true.
In His words:
They say the judiciary is the last hope of the common man. For us, the judiciary was our last hope. We thank all those who contributed one way or another toward ensuring our victory.
I again urge Bayelsans not to see those in the opposition as enemies. Today they are there but tomorrow they might be here. As I speak, many of our brothers in the All Progressives Congress (APC) are returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It will be recalled that the Supreme Court victory of 13, February, 2021 earned Gov. Diri the name “Miracle Governor”
