The Imo State Police Command said it has arrested two men in connection with the kidnap of a 30-year-old woman, Silver Ogechi Charles.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Michael Abattam, the command said it was the abducted lady who identified the suspects at a ceremony held in Owerri, the state capital.
A six-member gang had on December 5, 2021 kidnapped the lady, who was later rescued by the police at the kidnappers’ den.
According to Abattam, the lady had attended a ceremony in Owerri and saw and identified three of the six gangsters.

The PPRO said the lady immediately bolted from the venue of the ceremony on seeing the gangsters, adding that the gangsters also trailed her on realizing that she had also seen and recognized them.
Sensing that they might harm her, the spokesman of the police in the state disclosed that the lady alerted the police who swiftly arrived at a spot at Rapour junction in Amakohia in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state and arrested two of the gangsters while the third malefactor fled the scene.
Abattam therefore frowned at a report by an online news medium which claimed that the police killed one of the suspects while effecting their arrests.
The PPRO disclosed that the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the command is at present investigating the kidnap of the lady on December 5, 2021 while she was driving to church at Amakohia in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
The police spokesman further revealed that the police had earlier arrested two of the suspected kidnappers at their hideout and rescued the lady unhurt including recovering her Toyota Camry car.
He charged the members of the public to discountenance the report published by the online news platform.
