The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the killing of one Jennifer Ugadu, a 200 level student of the Faculty of Education at the state-owned Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma.
Spokesman of the command, Asinim Butswat, said the decomposing body of the deceased was found in her room on Tuesday, July 13, after one of her friends raised alarm of her death, following a confessional message on whatsApp.
The unnamed friend had stumbled on the whatsApp chat which Jennifer’s boyfriend, confessed to have killed her and had also threatened to take his own life.
According to the PPRO, Asinim Botswat:
“Police have recovered the decomposing corpse of one Jennifer Ugadu ‘f’ 23 years, a two hundred level student of the Faculty of Education at the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area Bayelsa State.
“The deceased’s body was discovered on 13th July 2021, after one of her friends stumbled on a whatsApp chat, where the deceased boyfriend admitted to killing her and threatened to commit suicide.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased was shot in her apartment by her boyfriend, one James Matol, who is alledgedly a member of the Nigerian Army. Investigations also reveal that the deceased was last seen with the boyfriend on 11th July 2021.
“The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command, Mike Okoli, has ordered for discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the student”.
Nigerdeltaconnect gathered that the boyfriend of the deceased was always accusing her of cheating on him because of the number of men, including students, that flocked around her daily.
He was said to have warned her that he will deal with her if he eventually finds out she was cheating on him and kept to his words on Sunday, when he took her life, after an argument between them in her off campus apartment.
