The police in Imo State have arrested one Princess Kate Nneoma Duruji, who was parading herself as a lawyer before unsuspecting members of the public.
The spokesman of the police in the state, Michael Abatam disclosed this in a statement dated July 7.
He said the 37-year-old woman of Akakem Palace Orji, Owerri also falsely presented herself as a barrister-at-law to the police on July 5 when she was arrested.
According to Abatam, Duruji confessed to the crime upon interrogation, leading to the recovering of a lawyer’s wig in her car.
The police spokesman said; “Following a case of fraud reported on 30/6/2021 and under investigation, one Mrs Princess kate Nneoma Duruji “F”, age 37 years of Akakems Palace Orji Owerri , lmo State, who information revealed that, she has been parading herself as a lawyer to unsuspecting victims was formally arrested on the 5/7/2021, when she falsely represented herself before the police as a barrister at law.
“When she was interrogated, the suspect confessed to the crime which led to the recovery of a lawyer’s wig conspicuously displayed on the dashboard of her Toyota Camry car with registration number ABUJA ABC 460 GG.
“Investigation is still ongoing and as soon as it is concluded she will be arraigned in court.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Imo Command, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, is appealing to the good people of Imo State to be wary of fake lawyers and advise them to ensure that, they approach genuine solicitors and advocates.
“He then warned those whose stock in trade is to go about impersonating lawyers to desist from such act as anyone found complicit will be arrested and prosecuted forthwith.
Similarly, the Niger Delta Connect had earlier reported the arrest of a fake doctor in Bayelsa State. The suspect who was paraded by the Bayelsa Police Command claimed to be a medical doctor in Bayelsa and Delta State.
The fake medical doctor had been going round seeking for jobs claiming to be Dr. Charles Umeh, a serving medical doctor in Taraba State, meanwhile his real name is Akpoviri Vincent Jimmy.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Asinim Butswat during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Yenagoa, the suspect is an Urhobo man from Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, and was first discovered in Ughelli when he did not know the correct terminologies a qualified medical doctor should know and use.
