Two members of a group known to specialize in targeting Uber drivers in Lagos have been apprehended by police.

Michael Tobiloba, 23, and Ismaila Yusuf, 18, were apprehended while attempting to murder an Uber driver outside Fela shrine in Ikeja’s Agidingbi neighborhood.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, confirmed their arrest to newsmen, saying the suspects boarded the cab as passengers from Ojota, but that during the trip to Fela’s shrine, the couple attempted to kill the driver in a carjacking.
However, the suspects were dealt a blow when the victim sounded an alarm, which drew the attention of some near by cops.

He claimed the suspects pretended to be going to Fela’s shrine when they hired an Uber. The men pulled out a gun and robbed the Uber driver of N80,000, a Tecno Spark 8 phone, and other personal goods while being transported from Ojota to Fela’s shrine in Alausa, Ikeja, according to the Lagos State police chief.
As a result, headded, the driver sounded an alarm,drawing the attention of a police patrol unit on routine patrol in the area.
“The policemen reacted swiftly and chased the suspects leading to the arrest of two of the robbers while others escaped. One English made revolver pistol was recovered from the arrested suspects.
The suspects were identified as Michael Tobiloba ‘m’ aged 23 and Ismaila Yusuf ‘m’ aged 18. Both suspects also confessed to be members of the Buccaneer confraternity”’ the police officer said.
