The Cross River State Police Command has rescued an 81-year-old Monarch who was abducted from his home late Monday night.
The traditional ruler, Chief Eteka Eyamba, 83, was reportedly kidnapped from his residence, Ibesikpo by Ambo Street on Monday at about 7 p.m. by heavily armed men suspected to be kidnappers.
According to reports, the kidnappers surrounded the entire area, shooting sporadically into the air.
It was gathered that the kidnappers successfully whisked the victim into their vehicle and took him to the creeks, where, unfortunately, they could not take off due to shallow waters.
It was gathered that the youths mobilized themselves, chased the kidnappers with the backing of Operation Akpakwu, a joint security outfit of Governor Ayade, and rescued the victim on Tuesday morning.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, represented by her assistant, Igre Ewa, confirmed the incident, saying the victim was kidnapped on Monday but rescued on Tuesday morning.
“The victim was rescued this morning, Tuesday, when our youths and the security operatives invaded the creek. We were told that one of them was shot in the leg and his colleagues took him away and abandoned the victim”.
According to Vanguard reports, the Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande said the incident has given them a platform to prove that they can act promptly and swiftly during emergencies.
CP Akande sent a warning message to hoodlums and criminals that the Command would do everything to flush all hoodlums out of the state if they do not back off.
