The Bayelsa State Police Command on Tuesday paraded a suspected criminal, Christopher Chiabata ‘m’ 56 years who was apprehended after a failed attempt to take his own life by drinking Sniper in order to escape arrest for the murder of his wife.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Mike Okoli during a press briefing at the state Police Headquarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
According to CP Okoli, the suspect on February 28, 2021 at about 0200hrs hit his wife with pestle on her head over domestic argument at Onuebum Community in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.
The wife who was bleeding profusely was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) where she was later confirmed died.
“The suspect after realizing that he has committed murder, took sniper to commit suicide. He was rescued by neighbours, resuscitated and arrested. He has confessed to then crime. Investigation is ongoing”, CP Okoli said.
In a related development, one Lazarus Josiah ‘m’ 29 years was also paraded for killing his biological mother for reason yet unknown.
The statement contained that the suspect strangled his own mother, Mrs. Chain Bishop 58yrs to death at about 0200hrs on February 20, 2021 at Odioma Community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
