The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has presented a cheque of N11, 974,071.55 to families of nine police officers who died in active service while protecting lives and property in Imo State.
The police spokesman in Imo State, Bala Elkana disclosed this in a statement dated June 4.
Elkana said the state Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro presented the cheque on behalf of the IGP to the families of the deceased officers.
According to the police spokesman, the money was from the IGP Family Welfare Insurance Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Schemes put on place to by the police authorities to ameliorate the suffering of families of police officers who died in active service.
“The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police on 3rd June, 2021 at the Command’s Headquarters, Owerri. The money is from the IGP Family Welfare Insurance, Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Schemes put in place by the Police Management Team to ameliorate the sufferings of families of Police Officers who died while carrying out their statutory duties.
“The initiative according to the IGP is aimed at supporting the immediate families of the fallen heroes and to also boost the morale of serving police officers to put in their best in protecting the lives and property of the citizens.
“The beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the IGP for not abandoning them in their moments of grief and prayed that God should continue to protect police officers in the discharge of their duties.”
