Spanish Police on Monday, March 1, 2021, raided Barcelona Football Club Complex and arrested the CEO, Oscar Grau and Barca’s head of legal, Roman Gómez Ponti, according to Daily Post.
Some other big names involved in the arrest are former Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu and his close ally, Jaume Masferrer.
The reason for their arrest was based on suspicion of “unfair administration, corruption between individuals and money laundering”, after installmentally paying money to avoid internal financial controls.
This is coming as investigation into ‘BarcaGate’ intensifies, in which Barcelona’s officials allegedly launched a smear campaign against some current players like Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique, as well as some former players such as Pep Guardiola and others, who were criticizing the Catalan club and Bartomeu.
It will be recalled that Bartomeu and his board of directors resigned last year due to controversies.
Local authorities from Mossos d’Esquadra stormed Barcelona’s stadium as the Blaugrana’s finance, legal and compliance departments are being investigated.
However the ‘BarcaGate scandal, which local authorities have been investigating for almost 12 months now, has long been denied by Bartomeu.
