The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, says the prediction that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will soon go into extinction is gradually becoming a reality following the defection of a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode on Thursday.
Chief Fani-Kayode was presented to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa by the Governor of Yobe State and chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the APC, Mai Mala Buni.
Secretary of the state chapter of the APC, Alabo Martins in an interview in Yenagoa, said the party will soon receive a large number of high profiled members from the ruling PDP in the state.
He said those who have made up their minds to join the APC are worried over the state of affairs in the PDP and the state in general, and have begun talks to move.
He said: “The defection of Femi Fani-Kayode, a once vocal voice from the PDP, shows the dynamism of politics and how most opposition members have wrongly criticized APC in the past.
“We are not joking when we say PDP will soon go into extinction in Nigeria. Here in Bayelsa, the mass defection will soon start because the current administration has not done any significant thing to change the fortunes of the people except their usual promises and excuses.
“There are many PDP members who are in talks with us, and they will soon leave the sinking PDP for us to take Bayelsa to the next level”, he added.
Martains opined that despite the huge allocations accruing to the state coffers, the present administration under Senator Douye Diri has been unable to commission any meaningful projects since inception.
“Since assumption of office, the self-styled Prosperity government has failed to improve the living standard of the people. All that the PDP does is to make promises. Look at Yenagoa and tell me if it looks like a city with a serious government in Creek Haven.
“Recently, there has been an upsurge in criminal activities with cases of abductions here and there. Bayelsans are living in fear, yet the PDP-led government is doing nothing to salvage the situation.”
