President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday promoted the chief of army staff, Faruk Yahaya, to the rank of lieutenant-general
The ceremony which took place at the First Lady’s Conference Room, Presidential Villa, Abuja, had in attendance high ranking military officials including Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to the president, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Chief of the Air, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, DG Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, Ali Ndume, chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Maj General Sunday Adebayo and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba.
The decoration of the army chief was done briefly before the commencement of the federal executive council (FEC) meeting being presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and Salamatu Yahaya, the wife of the army chief who was also present, assisted the president in decorating Yahaya.
Recall that Yahaya, a Major General was appointed army chief following the death of Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a military plane crash on May 21.
